Our vision for PB-USA: From here on, we will follow the Gintong Daan of our glorious past jumpstarted from Dan Nino’s presidency for us to become a foundation. From Eddie Ferrer’s Journey of Hope we shall go on to build and strengthen our gains. We have consistently done so over the past two years.

We plan to continue to ride the wave with international projects that will impact the poor and destitute men, women and children in the field of education, livelihood and infrastructure development of communities in Pangasinan.

We will strengthen our community service locally by actively participating in relevant Fil-Am celebrations and events in Los Angeles and beyond. We will engage and cooperate with college Fil-Am associations in SoCal region and beyond. We will continue to bring joy to the sick and elderly by collaborating with like-minded organizations to bring smile to alone and lonely people of SoCal. We will be a positive agent of change in the community awareness of our Filipino culture through films, print media project and things that matter to Fil-Ams in United States particularly our veterans, widows and their heirs. We will become a leader in the community or become a strong partner with other Fil-Am groups in championing advocacy that affects the Fil-Am community in the United States.

USAFA’s Adam Sumait is Champion 4 times in a Row  By Jun Caringal / Photo by Nios Sumait

The academy has a sports program worthy of national caliber in football, boxing and other sports. The young Adam found his place in the field of college boxing. With dedication in training and determination to become a champion, Adam became a four-time U.S. Air Force Academy Wing Open Champion.

In 2015 Adam earned his second NCBA Western Regional Championships in Reno, Nevada. According to his dad Nios, Adam had a tough semifinals bout with a University of Washington Husky, but in the end Adam prevailed. Then on the finals in his weight class, he triumphed convincingly after the bell rang. Adam earned his berth at the Nationals, so he advanced to his first 2015 NCBA National Finals. Two more Open Wing championships in his weight class followed.  In March this year Adam marked a milestone in his boxing career as he captured his fourth championship in USAFA open.

Four years ago, Nios Sumait of Illinois, Chicago and Urdaneta City, Pangasinan, Philippines and wife Necy Camaga Sumait accompanied their young son Adam Sumait to the United States Air Force Academy, a military academy for officer candidates of the United States Air Force. Its campus is located immediately north of Colorado Springs in El Paso County, Colorado. Cadet Adam Sumait found a new home in USAFA, one of the premier military schools in the nation besides West Point Military Academy and Annapolis Naval Academy.  Adam wanted to become a US jet pilot and has prepared for that prior to his entry into the portals of the academy.

The master pianist is affectionately described with “…insane fingers” by Manfred van Os, of Muenster, Germany, “… a sense of musicianship that didn’t call attention to himself but to the music itself…” from Pablo Tariman of Munting Nayon News Magazine, among others. Early sponsors for this musical event include EC Ferrer CHB, Inc., America Pacific Container Lines, Inc., Pinoy General Insurance Services, American Ranch & Seafood Markets, Inc., Summit Business Counselors, Hollywood Piano, SM Development Corp., Organique Acai USA, Inc. and Pillars Tax & Financial Services.

Ticket prices are $35, $65 and $100.. Proceeds of this Musical Odyssey are earmarked for the Pangasinan Brotherhood-USA’s Scholarship funds. The scholarship program provides funds to academically successful seniors who are college-bound both in Greater Los Angeles and the Philippines. PB-USA also funds Gawad Kalinga’s Namnama Village in Villasis and Laoac towns of Pangasinan province.

As reported on March 2, 2017, from AF, the Official Site of Air Force Athletics, the author said Sumait became the 15th boxer in program history to earn four straight Wing Open titles, as he won a decision against freshman RJ Leon in the night’s opening bout at 119 pounds. Sumait, the reigning national champion in that weight division, recorded several strong shots that forced his young opponent into three standing-eight counts before the final bell.
Adam will be part of the nucleus of the Air Force team that will represent the Academy at the upcoming National Collegiate Boxing Association (NCBA) tournament, beginning with the Western Regional Championships in March 16-18 in Reno, Nevada.  Adam is a champion and we can always learn something from a boxing champion such as, “It’s not the triumph, but the struggle!”  This is especially true in the tough sports of boxing and in life.
